Six local football teams in the postseason - Lowell Sun
The MIAA football playoffs begin Tuesday night throughout the state and six local teams will be playing in semifinal games in their respective divisions.
Tewksbury, Burlington and Shawsheen Tech made the postseason cut in Eastern Massachusetts.
Tewksbury (7-4) will battle Reading (11-0) at Reading High at 7:45 p.m. in Division 2 play. In a Division 2A battle, Burlington (10-1) will host Beverly (11-0) at Burlington High at 7:45 p.m.
In Division 4, Shawsheen Tech (9-1) will face St. Mary's (10-1) at Manning Field in Lynn at 5:15 p.m.
"The mood is real upbeat," said Shawsheen Tech coach Al Costabile, who guided the Rams to the CAC Large School title. "We're proud of what we've accomplished, yet hungry for more. We feel good. We're excited about this opportunity. We want to do a better job than we did last year (in the playoffs) and get back to the Super Bowl."
In Central Massachusetts, Groton-Dunstable, Tyngsboro and Littleton will be in action and represent the area.
In Division 3, Groton-Dunstable (10-1) takes on Tantasqua (5-6) at Oakmont Regional at 5:15 p.m. in Division 5, Tyngsboro (10-1) will meet Leicester (9-2) at Lunenburg High at 7:45 p.m.
In Division 6, Littleton (8-3) will tangle with Bay Path (10-1) at Lunenburg High at 5:15 p.m.
Semifinal winners will advance to play in the divisional Super Bowls on Saturday.
