    Principal's Update - March 17th 2023

Dear Shawsheen Students, Parents/Guardians, and Colleagues, I want to thank the Billerica Substance Awareness & Prevention Committee (BSAP) for generously funding the speaker presentation we provided to students and families this week from the national speaker, Tony Hoffman, who connects important topics like mental health and substance use. Mr. Hoffman's message to students was truly inspiring. At the end of each presentation, we reminded students that if they find themselves struggling with substance use, they can turn to a trusted adult at Shawsheen for support and they will not get in trouble for doing so. If you'd like to learn more about the perspective Tony Hoffman shared with us this week, you can learn more by visiting: https://www.tonyhoffmanspeaking.com/. I also want to thank BSAP, the Wilmington Substance Abuse Coalition, Hope's Room, MPY Inc., and Shawsheen staff for supporting our first Substance Use Awareness Night.

Shawsheen Tech hosts Bedford 8th graders for a ‘Showcase Day’ Students visit campus to explore vocational-technical options

The entire 8th grade class from Bedford’s John Glenn Middle School took a quick bus ride to Shawsheen Valley Technical High School on Wednesday to experience firsthand the unique educational opportunities the regional vocational-technical school has to offer. A total of 217 JGMS students and 17 staff members toured all 20 career and technical shops with Shawsheen Tech students serving as tour guides for the “Showcase Day.” After providing the Bedford students with a brief overview of each shop, they then observed Shawsheen Tech students engaged in shop learning activities. Students also visited the Shawsheen Tech Food Truck for a dessert made by the Culinary Arts program before heading back to Bedford.
