The goal of the Diversity Culture Club is “To improve the Climate of Our School and to create a place where everyone can learn, and every individual is celebrated.” Meetings take place Thursday after school in Room 108. The mission of Shawsheen’s GSA (Gender & Sexuality Alliance, formerly Gay-Straight Alliance)

is to raise awareness, to help create a culture of tolerance and acceptance, and to inspire others to celebrate diversity. As a member of our club, you will have an opportunity to learn about and express ideas that help to actively support the LGBTQ population. The GSA takes part in many school fundraisers, and it also sponsors field trips and social events with other GSA Clubs from the Northeast Region. The Mathematics Club provides Shawsheen students the opportunity to practice and improve their mathematics skills by working together on a variety of games, worksheets, and activities.  The types of problems that are worked on do not require knowledge from any specific genre of Mathematics.  The focus is on learning to increase problem solving skills by approaching different Math problems as a group and individually.  If students are interested the opportunity exists to compete in Mathematics competitions with other schools across the State. The Glee Club, better known by students as the Music Club meets every Wednesday after school in room 313.  Students and staff are welcome to join for fellowship and love of music: no need to be an accomplished musician!   No/low commitment opportunities as well as events that require a more formal commitment will be available.  Activities will include enjoying music of different genres and learning some basic musical skills.  This is a great way to meet friends and develop relationships with peers and staff.  Drop ins are welcome.   For more information please contact Mrs. Blanchette or Mrs. Maniscalco

Students in the top ten percent of the Junior and Senior classes comprise membership in NHS and NVTHS.  The purpose of the organization is to reward scholastic achievement in occupational, vocational, and /or technical education as well as to promote the ideals of honesty, service, leadership, and skill development among America’s future workforce.  NHS encourages the practice of high standards of personal and professional conduct and assists in initiating and maintaining strong working partnerships with local institutions of business.  Students who are recommended in their junior year are subject to an interview process by a faculty team. Once selected, members must participate in community service activities, must maintain an 85% or above average in all classes, and must exhibit appropriate character, leadership and citizenship qualities. All Juniors and Seniors academically eligible for National Honor Society (3.8 GPA or higher) have been notified via email.  Students are urged to check their Shawsheen email to follow through with the NHS application process.

The Newspaper Club offers students the opportunity to be a part of the voice of Shawsheen Tech by contributing to the school newspaper, The Rampage.  Whether your talent is writing, photography, illustration, layout, project management or more, there is something for everyone! We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday during homeroom, and one time a week after school. The Public Speaking Club provides Shawsheen students the opportunity to practice and improve their speech writing and performance skills.  The club also provides students the opportunity to compete in such contests as The Voice of Democracy, The Lions’ Youth Speech Contest, and SkillsUSA Leadership Contest.  During the school year, one on one coaching sessions will be available to all members by appointment both before and after school.  Students will also meet as a group before each competition. For more information please contact Mrs. Doucette. 

The Shawsheen Valley Technical High School Parents’ Advisory Council is a group of parent volunteers who are dedicated to the mission of our school.  All activities sponsored by the Parent Advisory Council are designed to help develop a strong community of families who are actively seeking ways of helping our students.  We work closely with teachers and administrators in an effort to enhance the educational experience of all members of the Shawsheen Tech community.

Ramblings is Shawsheen Tech’s awarding winning art and literary magazine.

The “Reading Rams” Book Club provides students who have a passion for reading a dynamic and interactive forum to discuss books.  The club meets monthly for literary discussion, both of books independently read by members and of a featured book, which is assigned and provided by club moderators.  Members are also invited to participate in special events such as service activities and biannual after school field trips to local destinations of literary interest.  Transportation to and from outside locales is provided by the school.  For more information please contact Ms. McGinness or Ms. Garcia.

The Robotics Club participates in team-based robotics competitions throughout the year. The students design, program and build their robots to execute specific tasks and strategies as defined by the annual VEX Robotics Competitions. We have several teams made up of 4-6 students each. All students are challenged through teamwork, engineering design, programming, manufacturing techniques and project management.

Do you like to ski or snowboard? Would you like to learn? Shawsheen Tech Ski & Snowboard club meets after school on Thursdays in January and February and heads to Wachusett Mountain, with transportation provided round trip. With options for lessons, rentals, and terrain park passes there is something available for every level, even if you have never been before! Give students the opportunity to become involved with SkillsUSA and the running of our chapter. Students gain experience in leadership and employability skills and Parliamentary Procedure as well as performing community service that benefits our school and our sending towns. This is an opportunity for students to gain leadership skills in a small venue.

Students are given experiences beyond the doors of Shawsheen through outdoor activities. Some of the activities are: Archery, Bass fishing, Trout fishing, Rope courses, Wilderness survival. The Student Council provides all students with the opportunity to become more involved in school, community and global issues.  The Student Council’s goal is to promote a greater sense of awareness through active participation in a variety of activities that promote citizenship, benevolence and leadership.  The Student Council runs Shawsheen’s recycling program on a daily basis, which includes:  the collection of paper, cardboard and plastic bottles.  Furthermore, the group sponsors a Thanksgiving food drive and sponsors collection drives for Catie’s Closet. Meetings are conducted during homeroom as needed and all interested students are encouraged and welcome to join.  Please contact Ms. Mountain you have any questions.

Staff nominate students to serve as orientation leaders and mentors every year. Students become eligible at the end of sophomore year, and they must satisfy the criteria listed below for consideration. Members of this group facilitate activities for the incoming 9^th graders, provide mentoring services throughout the year, including tutoring (if necessary), and community service projects throughout the year. By empowering participants through our unique bystander approach to prevention, Shawsheen’s TDVA enables students to stand up against all forms of gender-based violence and challenges participants to understand and embrace their roles as leaders when faced with these issues. TDVA student led meetings are a series of highly interactive facilitated discussions, not lectures. They provide concrete tools for confronting, interrupting and preventing gender-based violence. Research has shown that the more options a person has available to them, the more likely they are to non-violently intervene.  For more information please contact Mr. Tildsley.

The Traveling Rams is a club that seeks to broaden Shawsheen students’ experiences and expose them to the global community to which we increasingly belong. We offer the opportunity to travel to a culturally significant international destination at least once each year. In order to prepare for this trip, the club meets at least once each month to learn about the culture we will be visiting. In addition, we may take local field trips designed to increase cultural awareness. These young travelers will carry the lessons they learn during this enrichment opportunity far beyond the walls of our institution. The yearbook club provides students with an opportunity to gain experience in photography, and graphic design. Explore your creative side and help create a memorable yearbook for our seniors.
