Principal's Update - November 5th, 2021
Dear Shawsheen Students, Parents/Guardians, and Colleagues,
Today marks the end of the first quarter of the 2021-2022 school year. At this point in the year, freshmen have already explored 5 different vocational-technical programs, sophomores have started to strengthen foundational skills that will be essential for success in the fields they have chosen, juniors have been stepping up as role models for the freshmen who are exploring their shops, and seniors are preparing for the postsecondary paths that they will embark on when they graduate in June. We are so proud of the work students are doing and the growth they have been exhibiting. I encourage all students to keep it up as we head into the second quarter!
Congratulations to John and Abigail Adams Scholarship Recipients from the Class of 2022
Due to COVID, students in the Class of 2022 were not required to take the MCAS exams, but all were offered the opportunity to take the ELA and Mathematics MCAS exams last year in order to attempt to qualify for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a merit-based program that provides a credit toward tuition for up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at a Massachusetts state college or university. We are excited to announce that 35 Shawsheen seniors have earned this honor as a result of their scores on the ELA and Mathematics MCAS exams - please join me in congratulating them!

Follow-up: Student Behavior Concerns and Small-Group Presentations
In last week's update, I shared that we would be scheduling small group meetings with all members of the freshman class to deliver presentations clarifying our expectations for students. Based on feedback from those presentations, we have decided to schedule small-group meetings with all members of the sophomore class to deliver similar presentations that are slightly modified to address the needs of sophomores at this time. You can view the slides from the Freshman Presentation - Fall 2021 that was delivered to students by me, Ms. Angela Caira (freshman guidance counselor), and Ms. Tobin (Dean of Students) this week. The presentations to sophomores will be delivered by me, upper-class guidance counselors (Mr. Chapman, Mr. Harrison, Ms. Henry, Ms. McFadden, and Ms. Samaha), and Ms. Tobin this coming week.
