Principal's Update - Sunday, November 3rd 2024

Dear Shawsheen Students, Families, and Colleagues:

 

We look forward to welcoming the public into our building this afternoon for our annual Open House, from 2pm-4pm. We are also grateful for the incredible work Shawsheen staff and students have put in to prepare for today's event, during which we will showcase everything we have to offer to prospective students and their families. Go Rams!

 

School Climate Survey - November 4-18, 2024

In an effort to measure student, staff, and family perceptions of school climate at Shawsheen, we will be utilizing the School Climate Survey Suite from the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. There are three distinct surveys to gather information from students, school staff, and families. Links to those surveys will be emailed directly to those three target groups tomorrow, Monday, November 4, 2024, and the survey windows will remain open until Monday, November 18, 2024. We hope you will participate in those surveys once you receive them. Participation is voluntary, and responses will be anonymous.

 

Mock Election for Students - Tuesday, November 5, 2024

We encourage students to participate in the mock election at Shawsheen during student lunches on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The school store will be closed for business that day, and instead will be used as a polling location.  Presidential elections can be polarizing, but this mock election aims to foster civic engagement, not division. Students have worked extensively in several classes on the principles of democratic participation, and we hope this experience reflects those values. Our goal is for students to express their political voices privately, respectfully and in an orderly way, modeling the voting process. This exercise is about understanding elections, developing critical thinking, supporting students in forming informed opinions, and navigating differing viewpoints respectfully—focusing on the process, not just the outcome. The student ballots will include the five state ballot questions that are being voted on this year. We encourage students to refer to the 2024 Information for Voters Book from the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 

November SEPAC Meeting - Tuesday, November 5, 2024 

On Tuesday, November 5th @ 6:00pm you are invited to join us for our November Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) meeting in the school Library. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians of students who have disabilities to get together to learn from each other, ask questions, share ideas, and offer feedback. We value our partnership with you and will use the information gathered at these SEPAC meetings to focus on continuous improvement of our programs and practices.  We hope to see you in the Shawsheen Tech library Tuesday at 6:00pm.

 

School Photo Make-Up Day - Thursday, November 7, 2024

Smile-Pro Portraits will be here the morning of Thursday, November 7th for a Make-Up day to photograph any students that were absent on our original photo days.  If you have any questions or need assistance for anything photo related, please reach out to info@Smile-Pro.com or call 508-779-7550.

 

Q1 Report Cards & Exploratory Report Cards (cycles 1-4) 

Quarter 1 Reports Cards and Exploratory Report Cards for cycles 1-4 will be published and available to view in Aspen by the end of the day on Friday, November 8, 2024. 

 

Extra-Curricular Activity Updates for Students:

  • The Anti-Bullying Club will be meeting on Tuesday, November 5th after school in room 536. All are welcome.

  • Any athlete interested in trying out for the boys' basketball team should attend the sign-up meeting on Tuesday, November 5th at 2:15pm in the auditorium. Please see Coach Gore in the Business & Marketing shop with any questions.

  • There will be a wrestling meeting right after school Wednesday, November 6th in Room 115. No wrestling experience required - all are welcome. If you cannot attend, please notify Coach Pratt.

  • Any junior girl interested in playing in the FLAG FOOTBALL TURKEY BOWL game vs. the senior girls, please see Mrs. Ferrari, in room 214, as soon as possible. The game will take place under the lights on Tuesday, November 26th at 6 pm. T-shirt sizes are needed for all participants as well.

  • The next math club meeting will be Wednesday Nov. 20 in room 332.  See Mr. Reich for questions.

  • The GSA meets on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7:00 AM in Room 106.

  • Please join us for Yoga Club every Friday morning from 7:00 to 7:25 in Room 319. New members are welcome.

 

REMINDER: 2024/2025 Winter Sports Registration is Open -  Click Here to Register

The following information is from the SVTHS Athletics Department:

Winter Sports: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Hockey, Girls Hockey, Cheering, Wrestling and Swimming

Tryouts Begin: Monday, December 2nd

All Student-Athletes interested in playing a Winter sport; MUST register through Arbiter by Wednesday, November 27th. All student-athletes must have a current physical uploaded to their Arbiter account. 

Student-Athletes MUST also complete the following two Concussion Protocols: NFHS Concussion in Sports Course (if you completed the Online Concussion Course in the Fall season you do not need to complete it again and you do not need to turn in the certificate of completion) and Baseline Concussion Testing: The Baseline Concussion Test must be completed by all NEW (9th graders & transfers) as well as RETURNING 11th graders and any athlete who has not completed it in previous seasons. The Athletic Trainer will complete the Baseline Concussion Test during the first few weeks of the season. If you completed the Baseline Test in the Fall season you do not need to take it again.
