Dear Families of Shawsheen Tech Freshmen,
I am writing today to provide you with important information about the upcoming shop selection process:
Grade 9 students will complete the final exploratory cycle on March 27th and begin in their permanent shops on April 6th.
Instructions for electronic submission of top shop choices will be emailed to families on Thursday, March 26th.
Students and families will have from March 26th at 6pm until March 29th at 11:59pm to submit their top 5 shop choices electronically in Aspen.
Permanent shop placements will be made during the week of March 30th, and students and families will be notified by the end of that week.
Freshman Guidance Counselors have been meeting with students to prepare them for this process. That information can be reviewed in the message below from the Guidance Department, and by clicking on the link provided in that message. Please review that information carefully and contact your child's Guidance Counselor if you have any questions.

Dear Freshman Families,
Last week, our Grade 9 Guidance Counselors met with all freshmen to support them in preparing for their final shop selections, which will begin on March 26th.
During these sessions, students reviewed career clusters, explored how their interests and transferable skills connect to potential shops, and researched career outlook and salary information to help them make informed decisions as they identify their top shop choices.
This lesson is part of our year-long Grade 9 guidance curriculum, which helps students build self-awareness while beginning to explore potential career pathways. Throughout the year, students have worked on setting academic and personal goals, identifying their strengths and interests, beginning a resume, and participating in social-emotional lessons that promote belonging and respect within our school community. These activities help students make thoughtful decisions as they move forward in selecting a shop and planning for future career opportunities.
Please click on this link: Shop Selection Information Class of 2029 for information regarding the shop selection process. Final shop selections will be completed through each student’s Aspen account when the portal opens from March 26 through March 29.
On March 26th, freshmen will meet with their counselors to review how to access the portal through Aspen to submit their top five shop selections. Information will also be sent to parents/guardians that evening with instructions and again on Friday as a reminder.
