Sophia Gallant Represented Shawsheen Tech at Student Government Day
Sophia Gallant (Cosmetology, Grade 11) proudly represented Shawsheen at the state’s annual Student Government Day on Friday, April 10. She joined 200 high school students from across the Commonwealth at the State House for the prestigious event, bringing with her a strong passion for civic engagement.
During the day, Sophia connected with state leaders and listened to a debate on how Massachusetts is addressing the evolving role of artificial intelligence in public and private spaces. The event concluded with an address from Governor Healey, who expressed her admiration for the students in attendance and her optimism about the potential of the next generation.

Freshmen Completed a Successful First Week in Permanent Shops!
Last Monday, we kicked off the first week freshmen would spend in their permanent shops with a Shop Placement celebration in the gym with the entire freshmen class and cheered them on to their first day with a Hallway "Clap-Out" as they reported to their permanent shops for the first time. Freshmen got right to work during shop last week and are already putting new skills to the test! Check out the photos below to see some of the great work that our freshmen students did last week!

Reminder: 2nd Act Performance - Information & Opt-Out Notification (Freshmen Only)
The following information from 2nd Act is for SVTHS freshmen and their families:
I’ll Never Do That: All Shawsheen Valley Technical High School freshmen will be attending a play about substance use prevention presented by 2nd Act, a collective of artists in recovery, on Tuesday, April 28th. I’ll Never Do That shows how substance use disorder is a family disease, affecting everyone. The major focus of this play is how families cope with the effects of substance use disorder. For more info: https://www.weare2ndact.org/.
After the performance, the actors share their personal stories, followed by a talk back session with the students. Students will be encouraged to talk among themselves, with their teachers, and with you, about the issues raised. A resource list for teens and parents will be given to the teachers, who will distribute them to the students.
If you prefer that your child not participate in this presentation, please fill out the form here by Friday, April 24, 2026.
Reminder: School Climate Survey Information & Opt-Out Notification
The following message was originally shared with families on Tuesday, March 31, 2026:
As part of our continual school improvement efforts, we will be administering a school climate survey to staff, students, and parents/guardians in May of this school year. We will be using the questionnaires from the U.S. Department of Education School Climate Survey (EDSCLS), but we will be collecting the data locally, instead of through their online platform. Click on the following link to learn more about the EDSCLS, and to view the questionnaires: ED School Climate Surveys (EDSCLS) | IES. All survey submissions will be anonymous.
Surveys will be administered to students during scheduled times at school as follows:
Grades 9 & 11 = during the week of May 4-8
Grades 10 & 12 = during the week of May 11-15
If you do not want your student to participate in this year's School Climate survey, you must submit the May 2026 SVTHS Student School Climate Survey Opt-Out Form by Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
A link to the parent/guardian survey will be shared with parents/guardians of current SVTHS students on Friday, May 1st. Parents/guardians will have until Sunday, May 17 to complete the survey.
Sincerely,
Jessica Cook
