Dear Shawsheen Students, Families and Colleagues,

Last night, we recognized grade 11 & 12 students who were recommended by their teachers to receive Citizenship Awards at our annual Citizenship Night for grade 11 & 12 students. Each faculty member was able to nominate just one student, and students were selected for being exceptional members of our school community who embody our core values of accountability, integrity, and respect. Please join me in congratulating those students (listed in the link below)!

ELA MCAS Reminders for Sophomores

Sophomores will be sitting for the ELA MCAS next Tuesday, March 24th and Wednesday, March 25th. Students were asked to update their laptops in their Mathematics classes last academic week to ensure they are up-to-date with software and fully prepared for testing. Because some students may have been absent or had a larger volume of updates than others,  students are asked to check for any pending updates that may have yet to be installed and to restart their devices over the weekend. These actions will ensure that testing goes smoothly. We also urge students to fully charge their devices overnight so that their devices are fully charged for ELA MCAS next Tuesday and Wednesday. While back-up devices will be available for testing, additional charging and power supplies will be limited in large testing sites such as the gymnasium. To avoid disrupting testing due to laptop battery issues, please have students fully charge their devices and get a good night's rest!

Reminder: MCAS Days Will Be Normal School Days This Year

For the past few years, we have switched around student schedules during MCAS Test Administration Days to accommodate our testing needs. This year, students (with the exception of sophomores) will follow their normal, full-day schedules on all MCAS days. Once sophomores complete MCAS testing each day, they will resume their normal schedules – we will not be approving early dismissals just because of MCAS testing. ELA MCAS is scheduled first, on March 24-25, 2026. Since that is a week 2:

  • Grade 12 students will follow their normal academic week schedules.

  • Grade 9 & 11 students will follow their normal shop week/exploratory schedules.

  • Grade 10 students will complete ELA MCAS testing and resume their normal academic-week schedules once they finish testing.

Reminder: Permanent Shop Selection Begins Next Thursday, March 26
