  • Principal's Update - November 20th 2020

Today I'd like to give a special shout-out to all of our students for their participation, cooperation, and effort over the past two weeks while we have been 100% remote. Students have been through a number of significant transitions over the past year - from normal school operations, to a full shutdown last spring, to a hybrid model this fall, and then to a 100% remote model over the past two weeks. Everyone recognizes this is not easy for anyone - especially students. In the face of that, I think it's important to note the resiliency and adaptability students have exhibited in the face of those challenges. I hope parents & guardians enjoyed the conversations with teachers last night about both the progress and challenges students are experiencing this year, and I encourage you to build on these conversations with teachers throughout the school year. We can best support students by working together.

  • Update from Principal Jessica Cook - October 28th

I am so proud of everything we have accomplished at Shawsheen since we returned to school in mid-September under a hybrid learning model for students. Everyone in our community – staff, students, and families – have worked diligently to make this as successful and safe as possible. When we first introduced our current hybrid model in August, Dr. Jackson and I shared that we would monitor its implementation and make adjustments as necessary to best support the learning of all students. I am writing today to make you aware of an adjustment we will be making during academic weeks and putting into effect the first week of the second quarter, which begins on Monday, November 16, 2020.

  • Principal's Update - October, 23rd 2020

The Shawsheen Tech Community is a special one - I have felt this way since I first started working here as a teacher in the fall of 2009. Shawsheen educators are passionate about our mission and believe in our students; Shawsheen students are talented and curious learners who crave relevant, hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them for diverse career paths; Shawsheen families are active partners who are invested in the school and in working with us to best support students; and community partners are relentless advocates and supporters of the work that we do

  • Dear Shawsheen Students, Families, and Staff,

Out of an abundance of caution, Shawsheen Valley Technical High School will be closing for one week starting on Monday, March 16, 2020. Although there have been no confirmed or presumptive cases of Covid-19 associated with the Shawsheen Community, we have made the decision to close down for one week in an effort to support recommendations regarding social distancing and to clean and disinfect our entire facility. There will be no extra-curricular events or activities after school today, Friday, March 13, or during the closure next week.

We recognize that the closing of school can pose struggles for some students/families experiencing economic hardship. We encourage families with concerns about the impact of the closure to reach out to my office regarding assistance that may be available during this time.

Recognizing that our students don’t have equal access to the necessary resources, we will not be assigning or requiring students to complete school-work during the closure. Students on co-op can make the decision individually, in communication with their co-op employers, regarding whether they will report to their co-op jobs next week or not. Please note that students are not required to report to co-op and will not be penalized if they decide to stay home.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely over the next week, and make any future decisions in accordance with advice from public health and government officials.

    Jessica Cook
