Dear Shawsheen Students, Parents/Guardians, and Colleagues,
If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to follow us on our social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, to see regular updates from us, including regular posts containing photos and videos of our students and the great work they accomplish regularly at Shawsheen! Here are some of the photos we shared this week:
March Calendar Change - Half-day on March 11 instead of March 17
Yesterday I sent a message home about an upcoming calendar change - in order to provide our students access to the district SkillsUSA competition this year we have moved the half-day originally scheduled for March 17 to March 11. Please reference the updated school calendar, which is also available on the main page of the school website as well as the Principal's page of the school website.
Quarter Two Report Cards & Parent Teacher Night: Thursday, February 4
Quarter Two report cards were published and made available for you to view in the Aspen Family Portal yesterday afternoon. Please reach out to teachers or guidance counselors with any questions or concerns. We hope you will join us for our upcoming Parent Teacher Night on Thursday, February 4 from 6pm-8pm. For instructions on how to register for conferences, please reference the email sent home on Friday, January 22.

Student Clubs & Activities
Most of Shawsheen’s Student Clubs & Activities are up and running this year. Faculty advisors have worked creatively to provide meaningful experiences to students despite the obvious restrictions in place through a range of remote and in-person opportunities for participation. A few examples include:
- The GSA meets twice a week and students continue to participate in regional meetings through virtual ‘field trips,’ that allow them to connect remotely with students from other schools.
- The Robotics club meets on a weekly basis and students are preparing for their first remote competition which will take place on Saturday, March 6.
- Seniors in the National Honor Society continue to meet regularly and work independently to fulfill their community service hours (with some slight adjustments to the types of volunteer work that takes place) while twenty-three juniors have been notified of acceptance in the National Honor Society and will be inducted later this year.
- Advisors for the Classes of 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 have been meeting regularly with students and each group is developing plans for fun ways to connect students remotely.
Some of the other clubs/activities that continue to meet regularly include the Student Council, Chess Club, Music Club, and Reading Rams Book Club among others. Students interested in joining these or other clubs/activities should visit the Clubs & Activities page on our website.
Reminder: Asynchronous Wednesday Office Hours
Academic teachers in all subject areas hold office hours for students on asynchronous academic Wednesdays. We encourage students to take advantage of office hours to connect with teachers for extra support on asynchronous academic Wednesdays. Please view the Academic Week Schedule, originally shared in mid-November, to reference the times staff are available for office hours, one-on-one check-ins, and Ed Tech support.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the Class of 2025 is this Monday, February 1. Please spread the work to any interested 8th grade students you can. Then can apply online or visit our Admissions page for more information.
Best,
Jessica Cook
