        I am writing to make you aware of two different student leadership opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year. Please read below for more information.

        Student Cabinet & Student Representatives to the School Committee

        The Shawsheen Valley Technical High School (SVTHS) Student Cabinet is a representative group of Shawsheen students who meet regularly throughout the school year with the Principal and Superintendent-Director to provide feedback and speak on behalf of the students at Shawsheen. Meetings will take place at 2:15pm on the dates arranged. The students in this group elect the Student Representatives to the School Committee. Student Representatives to the School Committee are expected to attend monthly School Committee meetings and provide a report to the School Committee at each meeting.

        All students interested in serving on the SVTHS Student Cabinet for the 2023-2024 school year must submit the 2023-2024 SVTHS Student Cabinet Application by Thursday, September 21, 2023. Students will be notified by the beginning of October if they have been selected to be on the Student Cabinet or not. If more students apply than the number of spaces available, we will select students to create a representative group reflective of the Shawsheen student body based on student demographics, sending town, grade-level and vocational/technical program.

         

        School Council Student Representatives

        The Shawsheen Valley Technical High School (SVTHS) School Council is a representative group consisting of staff, parents/legal guardians, students, and community members. The SVTHS School Council is charged with five major areas of responsibility, which are to assist the Principal in:

        • Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards.
        • Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school.
        • Reviewing the annual school building budget.
        • Formulating a school improvement plan.
        • Reviewing the student handbook each spring to consider changes in disciplinary policy to take effect for the following school year.

        There is currently one open spot on the School Council for current Shawsheen students. The student elections are held annually through the Student Council which meets regularly in Ms. Mountain’s room (room 538).  All students are invited to participate in the Student Council and therefore to participate in the student election for the School Council Student Representative.

      • The first Student Council meeting of the school year is after school next Thursday, September 14, 2023 in room 538. Students interested in running for the School Council Student Representative position should attend that meeting and see Ms. Mountain with any questions. 

      • The SVTHS School Council meets monthly in the School Committee Room at 2:30pm. The dates for this year's meetings are provided below.
