Class of 2028 Shop Selection Information
Thursday, March 27, 2025
Dear Shawsheen Freshmen and Families,
This morning, freshman guidance counselors met with students in the Class of 2028 to review the process for shop selection. The purpose of this communication is to share that information with families. We encourage all parents/guardians to review the information in this message and have conversations with their students about the upcoming shop selection process.
Shop selection is scheduled to begin today, Thursday, March 27 at approximately 6:00 PM and end on Sunday, March 30 at 11:59 PM. During that time frame, students must log into their student Aspen accounts to choose their top three (3) shop choices, by following the instructions at the following link: Aspen Instructions for Shop Selection - March 2025. We will notify students and families of their permanent shops by the end of the day on Friday, April 4, and students will report to their permanent shops starting on Monday, April 7.
All students have been encouraged to speak with their parents/guardians about their choices. If your student has not already done so, please discuss this with them before they submit their final choices in Aspen. To help guide your student through this process, please take the following information into account:
- Click on the following link to view the presentation made to students earlier today: Shop Selection Presentation - March 2025.
- This morning, students were reminded to consider both skills and interests when selecting their final top three shops. They were advised not to underestimate themselves, and not to assume that their grades are not high enough, but also encouraged to be realistic with their final decision.
- We do not have pre-established cut-off scores for shop placement. If the number of students selecting a shop exceeds the capacity for that shop, then we rank students by their exploratory grades from that program to determine which students are placed in the shop.
- Final exploratory report cards, with grades for all 14 cycles, will be published in Aspen prior to 4:00pm on Friday, March 28.
- Once students submit their top three (3) choices in Aspen, NO changes can be made - selections can only be submitted one time per student.
- Links to the career trees for our vocational-technical programs are linked at the bottom of this message for reference.
If you have any questions about the shop selection process, please reach out to grade 9 counselors, Mr. Matt Smith, and Ms. Nancy LeBlanc.
Sincerely,
SVTHS Guidance Department
