Candidate Summary
Debbie Barnes
Billerica
I am the parent of a current Senior as well as a 2019 Graduate and am passionate about the Shawsheen Tech. As an elected parent representative on the SVTHS School Council last school year (2021-2022), I worked with the group to continue the progress made by the previous School Councils and helped to finalize the 2022-2023 School Improvement Plan. I contributed insight into School Culture & Student Discipline, which resulted in the recommendation to hire the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs to oversee the Dean's Office. I also gave suggestions for important changes to the student handbook, which were implemented for this upcoming school year. I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving the Shawsheen Tech community as a parent representative again this year.
Melissa Bates
Billerica
I am a mother of 2; my oldest is studying pre-law at UMass Lowell’s Honors College and my youngest is a sophomore at Shawsheen. We have lived in Billerica for 4 years. I believe strongly in promoting critical thinking in schools based on factual information delivered to students in an unbiased environment.
James Kenney
Tewksbury
I am a life-long Tewksbury resident, married with five children. My first four kids are graduates of the Tech and are doing well. Each was uniquely prepared for the next phase of their lives by attending Shawsheen Tech. I would like the opportunity to use what I learned in my many years working in the high-tech industry, research and development, as well as a small business owner for more than thirty years, to contribute to a school that has done so much for my family.
Darlene Torre
Billerica
I’m a new parent to Shawsheen tech with a freshman. Previous Billerica school committee member and current finance committee member as well as substance awareness prevention committee member.
